Since 2005, Vancouver’s Regional Assembly of Text holds a lovely ritual, a monthly letter writing club.

It’s a tradition that’s worth importing into Toronto. Think about it:

Baked goods, coffee, writing letters to your pals, the click-clacking of typewriters. Who’s in? If we’re lucky we might even get this… Now to find some working typewriters.

They’ve thrown one ridiculously fun slow dance night

Sunshine Cleaning psp and a memorable Heartbreak Karaoke night (that’s scenes from that night above). Oh, they also put together a fine little indie magazine. Yes, it’s the ladies from Worn Fashion Journal.

Worn, is an alternative fashion magazine, more DIY and Broken Pencil than Vogue or Toronto Fashion. Or in their own words:

Hostel on dvd SIS divx 3:10 to Yuma movie download Worn discusses the cultures, subcultures, histories, and personal stories of fashion. We strive to embody a place between pop culture magazine and academic journal. Worn opens new avenues in art and fashion theory by hovering where these two ideas intersect, connecting with fashion scholars and artists. We pay attention to how what is worn is made, interpreted, transformed, disseminated, and copied.

Founder Serah-Marie McMahon was originally based out of Montreal but she lives in Toronto now. Well, the city’s a little bit more fun because of it. You can buy the magazine on their site or at your fine independent bookstore.

I ogled the bowties and accessories (seen below) made by Toronto’s ‘Mr. Skona’ at the recent Love & Rummage Trunk Show.

Good Egg has hatched

After waiting with baited breath and seeing an empty storefront slowly get filled with cookbooks, pots, pans and other tantalizing things, Good Egg has finally opened in Kensington Market (267 Augusta).

It’s a cookbook store that also sells a lot of kitchen-related tchotkes. Some photos below (click for a bigger version). The staff are charming and knowledgeable, the store and merchandise are downright adorable. And with fall bringing all sorts of yummy fresh produce into the market it’s also a good time to pick up a new cookbook or two, load up on some fresh veggies and cook yourself (or your loved ones) a nice meal.

Tomorrow night Newmindspace will be restaging Queen of Hearts. Last year, Kevin, Lori and dozens of volunteers skulked around downtown Toronto and painted hearts all over Queen streets. Don’t worry the paint washed off after a few days. The end result is documented in this lovely photo by Amanda.

Out of the many, many things Newmindspace does (subway parties, pillow fights), this one is probably my favourite. It’s just plain cute and effective. I dare you to not smile when you see these little pink hearts dotting Queen St.
