I played around with Wordle the other day. It’s a little app that generates word clouds for blogs/websites. Mine’s here (or you can click on the image) download Cyborg movie . As you can see, the New York Times is rather prominent. It’s a not so subtle reminder that I may need to branch out.
p.s. play around with that ‘random’ function. Some of the word clouds are quite pretty.

Mariko and Jillian Tamaki’s Skim (which is actually published by Anansi’s sister publishing house Groundwood) is a gorgeous graphic novel about teenage love/angst, fitting in, growing up goth. Exquisitely illustrated by Jillian Tamaki.

A boy’s mind turns to… food?
To be specific, picnic foods. I live in a downtown condo, so unfortunately I have no backyard to speak off. All the more reason to go for picnics.
Thankfully, the ever useful Mark Bittman has compiled a list of 101 picnic recipes that take 20-minutes or less. Better get out the blanket, basket and bike. We’re going a-picnicking.

I found out this week that a friend passed away. Ron Elaschuk (the Captain) was a regular at I Deal Coffee. We’ve shared a lot of great conversations together and he was a fixture at I Deal. I went to his wake earlier in the week and was overwhelmed by how many people considered him a friend and part of their lives. He was part of mine too.
My fondest memory of him will be the one time when I saw The Captain belt out a rendition of the Velvet Underground’s “I’m waiting for my man.”
You’ll be missed my friend. Thanks for the conversation. I’ll make sure to have a coffee for you.
