Meet Harold Washington

I’ve known for a while now that Chicago has one of the dirtiest city politics in North America – It’s heavily rumoured that then-mayor Richard Daley rigged polls to deliver Chicago, Illinois and the country to JFK in the 1960 election.
So what happens when one man, a black man at that, tries to take on the Chicago Democratic machine? This week’s episode of TAL, which profiled the tragically short mayoral reign of Harold Washington, was one of my favourites in the last little while.
Washington opened the door for black politicians (a certain guy named Obama looked up to him) but made Chicago a much better place.
Kangaroo Jack video The Star Wars spoof about two-thirds of the way through the show is pretty damn hilarious too.
