Let's talk about my favourite topic…. ME!

New York magazine ran an article a couple of weeks ago on how kids today are more than willing to show extremely private parts of their lives online. The three key ideas of these new show-offy kids:

The study asserts that narcissists “are more likely to have romantic relationships that are short-lived, at risk for infidelity, lack emotional warmth, and to exhibit game-playing, dishonesty, and over-controlling and violent behaviors.”

Yeah…. we’re raising a society of sociopaths and the best part is that we’ll be able to find out about it on any number of social networking sites.

This week’s show has a story about Alex, a Russian-American marooned on a small island just outside of Manhattan. The two minute rambling about “hunting a duck with a stick because you have a bigger brain than a duck” is worth it. It also seems to continue my bi-polar attitudes towards our webbed and feathered friends. So cute yet so tasty.

Mr. Doctorow from Boing Boing points me to the Urban Curators I Want Candy trailer , a group of folks who place frames on particularly nice pieces of public space. This goes along with the TPSC’s art attack project so well that I may just bug Amanda to make it part of the next art attack.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time with mugs lately because I’ve come down with a nasty case of laryngitis or something that has turned my voice into something that resembles Kermit the Frog’s. I’m intrigued by these bad boys and may make a trip to a Value Village to find some of ‘em. My favourite coffee shop seems to have a few of them kicking around too. Link from this fine blog.

Finally, ducks! Lots and lots of brave, little duckies!

Catfight in magazine land

Feb 16, 2007 in Media

So the death of Toro has inspired all sorts of backbiting and gloating in the Canadian magazine world. The editors of Driven are gloating that their magazine hasn’t gone under and inspired a nice batch of comments over at the Canadian Magazines blog.

“We’ve always been confident that men want to read about what’s new in fashion, technology, watches and cars. The failure of our primary competitor does not lend credence to the theory that men won’t read about products…only that despite offering a quality publication, Toro failed to assess exactly what men are interested in,” says Driven Editor in Chief Michael La Fave.
